UNIT PROFILE
Auxiliary:
This is the backbone of the militia. The Iowa Auxiliary consists of older (over 45 year old) men, women, the disabled, and others who, by Iowa law, are not permitted to belong to regular militia units. The auxiliary will train to Level 1 standards, with an emphasis on emergency preparedness. These units will act as Neighborhood Watch groups and Citizen Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).
Mission:
The Auxiliary provides essential operational support for militia units and local communities throughout their assigned county, constantly filtering all operational ideas through the purpose of the Iowa Militia: Community Service, State Defense, and Disaster Relief. These units are the structure of the neighboring communities during times of duress and natural disaster, by providing leadership and logistical support to those in need.
The active, regular units of the Iowa Militia will never treat members of the Auxiliary as secondary citizens or even suggest that such persons act in a diminished capacity. The Auxiliary engages in training and supplying of essential needs to both the community and the regular militia, allowing the Iowa Militia to fully complete it's purpose.
The Iowa Auxiliary ensures future preparedness by prudently stockpiling quantities of food, ammunition, and medicine. Such supply units can furnish food, shelter, and/or comfort for extended periods to either unprepared community members or militia units, which will arise from within the local community. Such support units are the backbone of the militia, because they not only provide the muscle for everyday operations, these units also guard the homefront. The Auxiliary is the true "Home Guard."
Some of the Auxiliary missions include:
*Guard duty
*Neighborhood Patrols
*Security and Warning - keeping hostile forces under surveillance.
*Communications
*Logistics - providing transportation, medical care/supplies, establishing and guarding caches, collecting food, clothing, ammunition etc.
*Recruiting - identifying, screening, and recruiting personnel for duty
*Training new recruits
*Training CERT groups - establishing training protocols, plans for evacuation and supply of evacuees, etc.
